12 Job Search Tips for Recent College Grads and More

Networking, Job Search Tips and College Selection Ideas

Memorial Weekend is over. Long weekends are never long enough.  Did you notice several perennial topics over the course of the weekend?  They were the “it’ topic at BBQs, graduation parties, family gatherings and phone calls — jobs, job search, networking, our kids and their summer plans (interning, volunteering, jobs) and our recent college graduates and their plans.  And like many topics, this one can be hard to address with our recent college grads and our college kids who are home for the summer.  So, let’s not tiptoe around the topic — let’s explore some recent articles and tips for ideas to share.

This is a great list of articles. Thanks for putting it together! I’ve watched my son go through the job hunting process and it’s a painful thing to see. One resource he found really helpful is The Job Coach for Young Professionals. It covers the whole process right from assessing your strengths and weaknesses to success tips for after you get hired.

As someone who is employed but seems to be in a perpetual state of job hunting, I can say that a well-aimed shotgun approach is absolutely the way to go. Its good to know your field, but dont be afraid to get creative, explore what aspects of different jobs you like and take them a little further. My mom once said that even if I dont find the job I want, I can always incorporate my passions into whatever job I get.
So apply to anything and everything that looks like something you’d enjoy, thank them for their time in reading your materials, and always follow up to see about an interview.
    Good luck.
