5 vinegar and water cleaning tips

Make a pledge  to your lungs, wallets, senses to limit your toxic exposure.  As you finish the cleaning products on the shelf – do not replace them – rather create our own eco-friendly cleaning solutions using vinegar, water and essential oils. Friends, who know me – know that -  Clean is the sweet smell of pine, clorox, et al – so the essential oil keeps with my need to smell a hint of lemony freshness on cleaning day.  The benefits of cleaning with vinegar speak for themselves – $ savings, fewer toxins in our home, no harsh chemicals, environmentally friendly and a reduced carbon footprint –since we won’t be purchasing as many cleaning products.

Does it work? Yes! White distilled vinegar is effective for killing most mold, bacteria, and germs, due to its level of acidity.

The recipes are simple:

• Use white distilled vinegar – balsamic and red wine varieties will stain
• All-purpose countertop and mildew cleaner: Mix vinegar and water 1:1 in a spray bottle*
• Toilet bowl cleaner: Use pure vinegar to get rid of rings
• Window cleaner: Mix vinegar and water 1:4 in a spray bottle*
• BONUS ACTIVITY – clean your coffee maker with vinegar!

*Add a drop of your favorite essential oil to counter the vinegar smell!
